Ramble on

It took me too long to think of a tagline so this is what you get.

Paternity Leave, Days 4-6

Well, damn. 3 days just flew by.

Still sleep deprived but it’s improving a bit. We’ve been burning through tv and movies. Well, not necessarily “burning” but watching at a fast pace for us anyway.

I want to talk about what we’ve watched cause it’s good stuff but i’ll save that for another post. These are for parental ranting.

Anyway, his 1st birthday is coming up very soon. It’s looking like it’ll be a smaller turnout than we expected, which is a little bit of a bummer. But also understandable considering the party is on father’s day. We have more prep to do for sure.

Also, we’re going to Disneyland on Monday! On one hand I’m looking forward to it. On the other, I’m just so tired.

But still alive!

Paternity Leave, Day 3

I swear all my posts won’t be about paternity leave for the next 2 and a half weeks.

This week has been a blur though. I am extremely sleep deprived.

We reached out to a sleep consultant for our kid to get that process going. Our pediatrician recommended one. We are desperado. At least I am. I’m a really light sleeper, and it has been rough. To paint a picture:

Last night he fell asleep around 8pm. From then until around 11:30pm he woke up 4 TIMES. Each time one of us would go rock him back to sleep then rinse and repeat.

Once my fiancée goes to sleep, he’ll continue to wake up throughout the night just less frequently. And I’ll rock him back to sleep for the remainder of the night.

But damn do I love the kid.

Alright well.. we’ll see if I survive the rest of my paternity leave.

Paternity Leave, Day 2

Writing this one late so it technically bled into day 3. Although every day bleeds into the other now.

So I finally went to the optometrist, after 5 years or so. The last time I went was pre-COVID. My prescription didn’t change, so that’s good. And I ordered some new frames.

We also went to the park which was nice. My kid isn’t walking on his own yet, but he can stand and take steps with some help. So we put his shoes on and held him up so he could take some steps. He loved it! He was all smiles the whole time. Up until we put him back in the stroller anyway.

Ended the day playing a bit of Clair Obscur. But now my stomach is feeling terrible for some reason. If it’s not one thing it’s another!

Paternity Leave, Day 1

So I had 3 weeks of paternity leave left, and I have until June 16th to use it or lose it. So that’s starting today. And of course the first thing that happens is we all get sick.

I also still have some work to do technically, just not for my day job. I’ve been working on a contract project, but that is slowly winding down now. So at least I won’t have to work that much on leave.

And we have more planning to do for our kids first birthday.

Also need to go to the optometrist.

All I want to do is sleep 🫩

Andor

I have to talk about Andor. I mean what a show.

I think prequels to any successful movie or show can some times just be money grabs with poor quality. Especially with a saturated franchise like Star Wars.

But Andor made Rogue One and A New Hope so much better. After finishing Andor, we immediately rewatched Rogue One and it just added so much depth to the story.

The acting was great. A standout to me was Elizabeth Dulau who played Kleya. Her character works in the shadows for most of the show. But in the latter half of season 2 we get to really see her act and she nails it.

I highly recommend this show, even if you’re not into Star Wars.

On the color yellow

Jaundiced? JAUNDICED??

I guess the color of this blog does look a little piss-like.

Which makes me think of the one piece card game. Your deck falls into one of 6 color categories, with some being able to have 2 colors. The color of your deck is determined by your “leader” card. Your leader is a character from the one piece anime.

So there’s this one yellow deck whose leader is Eustass Captain Kid. And everyone calls the deck Piss Kid. Mostly cause it’s annoying to play against.

The family is sick

My kid started dripping snot the other day, which turned into coughing. Then last night my throat started feeling scratchy. I woke up worse this morning. Then it started to hit my fiancée. Now we’re all down with the sickness…

I was going to play in a one piece tournament tomorrow too. But it’s looking like I’m gonna cancel that.

Going on a tangent, I wonder if I should post about my one piece hobby here or make a separate Postalgic blog for that. Hmmmmm.
